Symptoms of Trichomoniasis

Normally, trichomoniasis begins showing signs and symptoms after 3 to 4 days since its initial infection. The disease’s symptoms depend on the location of the infection as well.

However, in most cases, women’s symptoms are characterized by manifestations such as:

  • heavy frothy vaginal discharge, mostly yellowish and greenish; it’s found less commonly in other shades;
  • abundant white discharge from vagina, confirming the presence of trichomonas in the body;
  • hyperemia (redness with swelling) of the vaginal mucosa, often accompanied by purulent discharges.

Men infected with trichomoniasis can develop symptoms such as:

  • Painful urination
  • Signs of acute or chronic prostatitis (when the infection involves the prostate gland)
  • Urethral discharge, which can be bloody occasionally
